Outer Banks Beach Fire Information

What should I know for a beach fire?

FAQs

Where can we have our fire?

Nags Head is the only town in the Northern Outer Banks that will give permits for beach fires. You can also obtain them in Cape Hatteras National Park. We offer beach fires from Nags Head South to Rodanthe, Waves, & Salvo.

Will we need firewood?

One of the benefits of booking your beach fire with us is that all the wood is provided. We even haul the wood out to the beach and have it stacked a safe distance back from the fire, ready for you to easily add logs through the evening.

Do we need to get a permit?

We will provide you with a permit as part of our service. If you are building a fire on your own you will have to follow the local wind charts to find a time when you can book your permit under the wind limits, once you have the wind figured out you fill out the entire application process on the Nags Head Fire Rescue or Cape Hatteras National Park website.

Will we get a paper copy of the permit?

The permit from the Town of Nags Head is digital, we will send it to the phone you use to book the fire so you have it easily accessible. The digital copy will serve as your permit should the Ocean Rescue team check for it.

Will we need chairs?

You can either bring your own OR we can provide them for you. Follow the link to book beach chairs for fireside comfort, with us!

Can we cook on the fire?

Yes! This is one of our favorite past times, and we will never use pressure or chemical-treated woods that would make the food unsafe for consumption.

How long does the fire last?

Typically the wood will last around 2.5 to 3 hours. There is some variability to that depending on how quickly you add the wood and higher wind.

Do you handle events and large parties?

We love events and large parties! We have done weddings, engagements, reunions, birthday parties, and more!

What if there is bad weather on the day of our fire?

We will monitor the weather in advance in an effort to reschedule your fire to a better day if necessary. The weather here can be rather unpredictable, but we will work with you as best as we can! For our full weather and cancellation policy click here.
